Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) has been around since the mid-1990’s and began with a law firm in Texas deciding it could reduce its legal costs by setting up a branch of their firm in India. The firm, Bickel & Brewer began outsourcing legal research to India. Their branch in India then spun off into a separate company to handle all kinds of LPO work from various firms. Not long afterwards, Smith Dornan Dehn, a New York and London-based law firm also established a branch in India, now known as SDD Global Solutions. SDD Global began outsourcing legal work from the US to their Indian attorneys as well. Work performed by these attorneys includes: Legal Research, Legal Drafting, Patent Services, Litigation Support, Business Affairs, and Immigration.
Some companies have also established firms overseas to help reduce their legal costs. These companies include: Dupont, GE, Microsoft, Motorola and Cisco Systems.
LPO is not a new concept. And, although only a few examples are cited here, According to the Boston Business Journal (August 1, 2008), the market for outsourced legal work is projected to increase in India from $146 million in 2006 to $640 million by 2010.
THE ADHEYA SYSTEMS' DIFFERENCE:
AdhEYa Systems is a LPO company with a unique model that sets us apart from many other LPO services companies performing work in India. This includes:
- We keep our costs exceedingly low because we are a company made up of technical experts trained in patent drafting, we are not higher-priced Indian attorneys;
- We are located in the city of Trivandrum in the state of Kerala, a relatively low-cost area when compared to the larger Indian cities like Mumbai or Delhi;
- We have drafted and are continuing to draft an ever-increasing number of patent applications along with numerous searches, drawings and other patent-related work, with our current work force;
- We are a United States Company based in Irvine, California, easily reachable in the US should problems arise;
- We have an extremely sophisticated security protocol in place to protect our client’s disclosures;
- We have an export control and conflict of interest protocol in place to protect our clients from running afoul of the Export Administration Regulations and various Bar Association’s Rules of Professional Conduct;
- We have fixed prices in place so you always know and approve the cost of the work before we start;
- We fix our mistakes at no additional charge to you;
- We provide a time-tested process to assess the work, quote the price and provide an estimated completion date normally within 48 hours of receiving the disclosure;
- We use a password-protected ftp site for ease of acquiring secure patent disclosure information from you and ease of providing the completed work to you, regardless of your location;

"We allow a potential client to easily try out our services with no risk and no obligation to send us additional work. This is a foolproof way to assess whether our services are right for you/your firm.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU?
In the Intellectual Property world this means there is an established process to assist you in cost-effectively managing/sustaining your business.
IP LAW FIRMS/SOLO PRACTIONERS/PATENT AGENTS:
AdhEYa provides the support services for your business to allow you/your staff to spend more time on higher-value tasks such as litigation or marketing. Based on experience with our current clients, patent drafting time-savings of 50% or more is possible compared with performing that same work themselves. Instead of spending days drafting a patent application, they spend perhaps a couple of hours reviewing and slightly revising the drafts we provide. This has enabled them to take on additional business that they might normally have to turn away. AdhEYa Systems also provides:
- Assistance with patent applications or office actions with tight time frames;
- Assistance with overflow work, smoothing out the workload;
- Assistance with unfamiliar technology areas;
- Assistance with skill shortages in patent drafting and producing drawings;
- Assistance in reducing overhead costs.
CORPORATE IP COUNSELS
As with any other department in a corporation, IP counsels are challenged with reducing the costs of their operation, while still getting the work done. Costs are particularly high for those companies that outsource patent prosecution work to US firms. They become captive of the often high hourly rates of those firms. Those companies that keep patent prosecution work in-house also face high overhead costs, along with challenge of uneven workloads where the staff are either too busy or do not have enough work to do. AdhEYa can help by:
- Providing a low-cost draft application to those firms that outsource patent prosecution, significantly reducing the hours outside firms need to spend on that work, resulting in significantly reduced patent prosecution costs;
- Reduce the staffing requirements for those companies that keep the work in-house;
- Smooth the workload by assisting with work overloads and/or tight time constraints;
- Reducing the overall cost of patent prosecution by 50% or more;
